After watching the Beast Wars episode ‘Transmutate’ again (because for some unfathomable reason I enjoy making myself sad), I started scoping around for Transmutate-related fan stuff. Sadly I found very little, but that’s not the point of this post. The point of this post is a small detail I noticed in something I DID find, in a YouTube appreciation video to be precise. At first I only caught it out of the corner of my eye, but viewing the end of the video a second time confirmed what I saw. The end of the video was this scene;

As Transmutate is talking, Rampage strokes her cheek once with his thumb. While that may not seem like much, this added a whole new level of emotion for me. Here we have Rampage, who really could not give a shit about anyone else in the entire show. And really, why should he? The Maximals used him as their science project then tried to dump him in exile when he didn’t do what they wanted, and the Predacons are forcing him to fight a war he doesn’t want a part in (plus, a lot of them are just annoying).

But then he meets Transmutate. Finally, finally there is someone he can relate to and understand, and who can relate to and understand him in return. And as she is dying, he attempts to offer her physical comfort, which he has almost certainly never given or received.
